This sumptuous Etruscan revival 18kt necklace contains approximately 1 3/4 ounces of gold which suspends five (5) beautifully carved Roman motif Cornelian intaglios. Each intaglio is different, giving this necklace a one of a kind design. This style of jewelry was named for the Etruscans, a people whose civilization predated that of the Romans and Greeks and whose influence greatly contributed to early Roman culture. The Etruscans developed beautiful art and metalwork techniques that have influenced jewelry and the decorative arts throughout the ages. Many of the Etruscan jewelry techniques such as the twisting and braiding of metal, had created the popular style known as filigree. Another characteristic style created by the Etruscans was the decoration of jewelry by using small metal spheres on precious metal, known as granulation. Both these styles can be seen in this necklace, they are the same ancient styles that produced magnificent jewelry for Rome's emperors and wealthy patricians. The resurgence of this opulent style appeared again in the late 19th century and its popularity thus led to Etruscan revival jewelry. It has since become a highly sought after fashion statement .............GORGEOUS !!
