This spectacular micromosaic dog brooch is a Victorian antique circa late 1800's. This micromosaic is Italian in origin and was handcrafted by the Vatican school in Rome. The mosaic was designed as a King Charles Cavalier Spaniel. It was created by using very tiny pieces of colored glass tiles called tessarae which were pieced together to form the dog's image. The mosaic was set into onyx stone and framed in 18kt yellow gold. It is a beautiful example of an art form originally created as souvenirs for tourists in the late 19th century. Due to the laborious effort it takes to create these mosaics and especially those with desirable subject matter, they have become highly collectible and rare.......... Exquisite one of a kind brooch
